Inside Your Home

It's my favorite time of year, you guys! Halloween is next week, and it's on a Saturday. For once, everything is right in the world. We'll take a look at what the people of Pocket Country get into on the holiday next weekend, but for today, let's take a look inside your house.

Before you even make your character, the game asks you the most important question in the universe.

A wooden door standing alone in a spotlight in the dark, turning green as a color wheel picks green, under the question What's your favorite color?

What's your favorite color?

Whatever you pick becomes the color of your front door. You can pick literally any color. I'm going with my favorite: Green!

The arched mouth of a cave in a pale cliff, Chillo, in his pointy wizard hat, standing on the stone step out front, with blue, pink, green and yellow doors closed inside

Your front door, waiting in the cave.

Home is a cave tucked into the cliff at the far end of your farm. There are four doors inside, and the other three pick colors to complement yours (more on the other doors some other time!). My home here is the second from the right.

A small, bare room with cream walls and a plank floor, with only a log bed, a round wooden table and a black wood stove, Chillo, in his pointy wizard hat, standing just inside the door

Here's what's behind it on day one.

A bed, a table and a stove. That's all you start with, so it's pretty bare. But! Here are a few rooms I've put together since.

A kitchen with patterned wallpaper and a tiled floor, an iron oven between a counter and a sink, a round table with a big berry pie on it, two wooden chairs and a rug, Chillo in his pointy wizard hat beside the table

A farmhouse kitchen, first thing in the morning.

I'm still working on the "feel" of the actual decorating mechanic. Right now, you press B and a grid pops up over the room. You can then pick anything up and set it down wherever it fits. Little things, like the pie on the table, can sit on top of other objects.

A bedroom with red fleur-de-lis wallpaper and a mosaic tile floor, a red velvet bed with a gold frame, a gilded nightstand with a candle, a cream and gold dresser, a velvet chest, a footstool, a gold chair, a tall gilded mirror and a portrait, a patterned rug beside the bed

A royal bedroom.

For this room, I've borrowed furniture from the Medieval Dimension. Straight from the royal capital! And no room is complete without its own wallpaper and flooring. You can also add rugs that'll slide right underneath furniture!

A room with paper screen walls and tatami mats, a low table with a paper lantern and a blue patterned vase on a round red rug, a floor cushion, a taiko drum, a shelf of jars and a teapot, a navy cabinet painted with flowers, a hanging scroll, a folding fan and a tall paper floor lamp, the windows pink with sunset, Chillo, in his pointy wizard hat, behind the table

A tea room at sunset.

This one's all Cloud Dimension pieces. If you look at the windows, the sky outside follows the real sunrise and sunset, so this time of year it's getting dark a little earlier every day. (If you'd rather have more wall, you can close a window up!)

A room with lilac quilted wallpaper and a starburst parquet floor, a little table on a star-shaped rug with a unicorn, a teddy bear and a pink pig plush sitting around it, a dollhouse, a telescope at the window, a floor lamp, a cushion and framed pictures

A tea party for the plushies.

I'm also experimenting with some furniture ideas from the Dream Dimension. People sleep with plushies, right? Like, that's a thing. Well, either way, that's where I'm starting~!

A room with dark machine-panel walls dotted with tiny lights, pale station floor plates and a dark hex carpet framed in glowing cyan, a white sci-fi desk with test tubes, a captain's chair, glowing wall screens, an oxygen tank, a supply crate and two potted space plants

And one from out of this world.

This room comes straight from the Galaxy Dimension. The screens and the edge of the carpet glow when the lights go down. Every dimension has its own look, so as you progress through the story, you can bring those different looks back home with you.

A much roomier home, 6x6 tiles, with pale plaster walls and a parquet floor: a red loveseat, a flower-painted coffee table and an armchair on a round pink rug, a bed with a side table and an alarm clock, a cuckoo clock, a round dining table with a pie and two chairs, painted drawers with a candle, a standing mirror and two lamps

Need more room?

Your home won't always be 4x4. Here's a teaser of the next size up: 6x6 tiles. Now, there's space for a couch and a dining table, and as I've been doing since 2001, the bed still fits in the corner.

That's it for this week. If you haven't made plans for Halloween, it's not too late! But with that, I'll give your time back now. Thanks for letting me borrow it!
